How Quick Release Valve Work?

Date:2023-02-20
A quick release valve is used in air brake systems to provide a quick release of pressure from spring brake chambers. The valve helps to reduce brake lag and improves response.
Typical air brake valves are equipped with a control piston that extends the rod of the cylinder and compresses the spring, thereby controlling the braking force on the vehicle's wheels. A spring brake quick release valve is included in this system to speed up the braking process, expel exhausting air quickly from the chambers, and maintain the sensitivity of foot controls in situations where the primary circuit has failed.
These valves are normally installed on the side of the cylinder and are not required to be removed from the cylinder, which allows for improved response time and reduced maintenance. They also help to reduce noise and reduce leakage because the valve is located within the cylinder.
This valve is usually installed in the inlet of an exhaust cylinder to rapidly expel controlled air, but can be located anywhere in the cylinder. It is a pneumatic in-line, three-way valve that automatically closes when pressurized and opens to exhaust when a pressure drop occurs in the supply line.
The most important function of the valve is to quickly expel excess air from the piping system. This is to prevent pressure surges and water hammer, which can damage pumps, valves, and pipelines by accumulating air at the high points in the system.
A valve with this function typically includes a double pilot clapper (also called a 'double check valve' = DCV) to allow for faster, more accurate control of the spring brake. A series of thermoplastic ribs guide the poppet, which is designed to be dense enough to permit maximum emission of unwanted system air, yet buoyant enough to affect a quick seal and minimize emissions of the process liquid.
Quick release valves are available in a variety of materials, such as stainless steel, brass, and polypropylene. They can be made to fit any cylinder or pipe size.
They are available as a single- or double-acting cylinder. The patented design of the valve makes it easy to use.
The valve consists of an inlet, a nitrile poppet, and an exhaust port. The nitrile poppet seals the inlet and the exhaust ports and is made of a material that is non-corrosive and resistant to moisture.
An air release valve can be made of a variety of materials including metal, plastic, and rubber. It can be a manual or automatic shut-off valve, or it can be a pneumatic in-line, three-way air release valve.
